イオンが新聞広告に「反省文」を出したことは、人から聞いた。流通業界のトップであるイトーヨーカドーとイオンは、どちらも相次いで主力商品の値下げを敢行している。そして、西友が298円弁当を発売するという。

これらのプロモーションを観て、消費者はいったいどういう感想を抱くのだろうか。

「イオンは反省しているんだな、偉いぞ！」

「298円弁当は、一括調達や効率的な生産で、内容は変わらず安くなるんだってさ。素晴らしいね！」

などと受け取っているのだろうか。

僕には、腹立たしく思えてならない。小売業界は、食べものの価値をまた下げようとしている。しかも、彼ら自身は「頑張ってます」というメッセージを出しているけれども、真実は、彼らの前にいる生産者やメーカー、流通業者を絞り尽くすことで、これを実現させているからだ。
